The Brussels Institute for Social and Population Studies (BRISPO) conducts research on the socio-economic, cultural and demographic dimensions of social inequality primarily focusing on Belgium and Europe, while also considering a broader global perspective. BRISPO was established in 2024 through the merger of several research groups, including Interface Demography (ID) and Tempus Omnia Revelat (TOR). This led to the creation of a diverse and multidisciplinary team composed of both senior scholars and early-stage researchers with a background in sociology, demography, economics, psychology, statistics and human geography.
Research at BRISPO is organised into seven thematic research units: AI, Migration & Society (the AIMS Lab); Childhood, Culture and Cognition (CCC), Tempus Omnia Revelat (TOR), Inequality and Racism (IR); Interface Demography (ID); Sustainable Work (SW); and Qualitative Research in Action (QRIA).
BRISPO members actively and voluntarily participate in several collaborative working groups focused on: research dissemination and communication (Outreach WG), research data management and security (Data Management WG), team integration - both research-related (Research Integration WG) and social (Social Integration WG), as well as supportive and inclusive working environment (Well-being and Development WG).
BRISPO researchers also engage in the scientific and wider valorisation of their research by helping to shape public policies and contributing to the broader societal debate on the most pressing and current social challenges.
