Marie Alice Mosuse
Biography
I am a PhD researcher funded by a fundamental research fellowship from the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO). My research focuses on the fertility and sexual and reproductive health of women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Congolese diaspora in Belgium. My work aims to bridge postcolonial studies and demography. I am especially interested in exploring how colonial policies and practices have shaped the reproductive choices and outcomes of Congolese women.
In addition to my academic activities, I am actively engaged in Because Health's Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and HIV working group. This collaborative effort is geared towards influencing policy measures and effecting positive change in the realm of sexual and reproductive health in countries where Belgian or Belgian-supported development actors are operational. Before starting my PhD, I obtained my bachelor and master degrees in sociology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Currently, I am also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in midwifery, to further enhance my medical expertise in the field of fertility and SRHR.
