Julie Vanderleyden
Biography
I started my PhD at the Sociology department of the VUB in 2020. I hold a Master’s degree in Sociology from VUB and a Master’s in Statistics from KUL, during which I participated in an exchange program at the Survey and Research Methodology Program (UNL) in the U.S. After my studies, I worked at Eurofound (2018-2019), where I was involved in various research projects and contributed to the preparation of the EWCS 2020. From 2019 to 2020, I served as a research officer at the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) in the UK.
My doctoral research focuses on examining the link between health and employment quality from a cross-national perspective, applying a micro-macro sociological lens. Specifically, I explore these dynamics in the European Union, South Korea, the United States, and Argentina. Although my research is primarily quantitative, I have conducted research stays at Chung-Ang University in Korea and the University of Washington (Seattle, US), to contextualize my findings. During these stays, I conducted expert interviews with academic scholars and governmental stakeholders.
In addition to my doctoral research, I am actively involved in the Sociology Program at VUB, where I teach in both the bachelor’s and master’s programs.
