Terhi Kangas
Biography
I am a junior researcher, originally from Finland, with an academic background in Belgium. I earned my Bachelor in Social Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and later my Master of Science in Sociology at Ghent University (UGent). Before my academic journey, I graduated and worked as a psychiatric nurse in Finland, holding a degree of Bachelor of Health Care and Nursing from Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
My research is situated within the field of health sociology, with a specific focus on rare and chronic diseases and their impact on individuals' health-related quality of life. I am also engaged in the international research project LIVES (Quality of life of patients living with vascular LIVEr diseaseS), which investigates the social impact of rare diseases.
In addition to my research, I have several teaching engagements. I’m involved with two first-year Bachelor courses: Statistics for Social Sciences and Current Issues I. Furthermore, I supervise third-year Social Sciences students as they navigate their thesis project. This combination of research and teaching sums up my interests to advancing the field of health sociology and supporting students throughout their academic journeys.
