On September 23, 2024, Damini Purkayastha successfully defended her PhD thesis, "Skills as Borders, Skills as Routes: Rethinking Migration Categories Through Lived Experience". Supervised by Professor Tuba Bircan, the dissertation explores how migration categories, particularly around skills, create hierarchies and precarity. Through in-depth interviews with non-EU migrants, the research critiques rigid migration categories and emphasizes the importance of lived experience in shaping more inclusive migration policies.
