2022-2025
Research description
Quality of work is an important challenge that is gaining urgency and is broader than the debate around workability. Although the Workability Monitor of the Foundation for Innovation and Labor is an important representative and large-scale instrument for measuring 'workable work' and has formed the basis for academic and policy analyses on the quality of work, there are reasons to revise this measurement. The nature of work and labor organization is changing rapidly. This has consequences for the quality of work, the factors influencing it, and the affected target groups, but also requires adapted or new indicators. Science is also not standing still. Further analyses of what makes work high-quality are now possible due to the emergence of new concepts and methodologies in various disciplines.
Both the Coalition Agreement of the Flemish Government for 2019-2024 and the Recovery Plan of the Flemish Government 'Flemish Resilience' outline the importance of the quality of work for the Flemish economy and society. To promote the quality of work, gaining insight into various concepts as well as challenges and levers, through a multidisciplinary approach, is crucial.
