On 10 December 2025, our colleague Leandros Kavadias successfully defended his PhD thesis at the University of Groningen. The doctorate was completed as a joint PhD between Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
The title of the PhD thesis is “Paradoxes of the Schooled Society: Investigating the Centrality of Schooling and Its Institutional Effects from a Global Perspective”. The dissertation was supervised by Bram Spruyt, Toon Kuppens, and Susanne Scheibe, and was conducted within the framework of Leandros’ FWO PhD Fellowship project The Schooled Society Index: Measuring the Increased Centrality of Education and Its Societal Consequences from a Global Perspective.
The public defence took place at the Academy Building (Aula) of the University of Groningen and An abstract of the PhD thesis is available on the library website of the University of Groningen.
