Het hier voorgestelde project stelt zich tot doel de jongerenculturen in Vlaanderen in kaart te brengen. Daartoe wordt de samenhang beschreven tussen attitudes, de waarden en de normen van jongeren enerzijds, hun leefstijl, cultuuruitingen, cultuurpraktijken en mediagebruik anderzijds. Het eerste luik van het onderzoek bestaat uit een kwantitatief onderzoek op basis van een steekproef van een 5000-tal jongeren uit het laatste jaar van het secundair onderwijs. Daarna wordt de samenhang tussen, enerzijds de onderscheiden subculturen, anderzijds de sociaal-economische achtergrond, de schoolloopbaan en het geslacht nader onderzocht. In een tweede luik willen we dieper ingaan op de Vlaamse jongerencultuur via diepteintervieuws met jongeren en via de analyse van de door hen gebruikte of gemaakte cultuurprodukten. In dit tweede luik, gaat de aandacht voornamelijk naar de symbolen die door jeugdculturen worden gehanteerd.
Flemish Youth. An investigation on youth cultures, culture consumption and culture consumption in Flanders.
The purpose of this project is to map out the youth cultures in Flanders. For this purpose, we will describe the relationship between attitudes, values and norms of youth on the one hand, their lifestyle, cultural interests, cultural activities and media use on the other hand. The first part of this research consists of a quantitative survey, based on a sample of 5000 pupils in the last year of secondary school. After this, we will investigate the relationship between, on the one side the distinguished subcultures, and on the other side the socioeconomic background, the school career and gender. In the second part, we will go more profoundly into the Flemish youth cultures. This will happen by way of in-depth interviews with youngsters and by an analysis of the used or made cultural products. In this second part, most of our attention goes to the symbols that are used by the different youth cultures.
