
A recent study by Jessie Gevaert (BRISPO), together with Gun Johansson, Melody Almroth, Sherry Baron, Theo Bodin, Rod Hick, and Kathryn Badarin, examines the relationship between in-work poverty (IWP) and mental health risks among the Swedish population.
Based on data from more than 2.5 million workers, the research demonstrates that IWP is associated with an elevated risk of diagnosed mental health conditions and SSRI prescriptions. The greatest risk is observed when financial insecurity is combined with part-year employment, underscoring that work alone does not protect mental health in the absence of economic stability.
