An article "Women's trajectories to abortion care in Flanders, Belgium: A qualitative study" co-authored by Lobke Van Ryckeghem, BRISPO Junior Researcher, was published in SSM – Qualitative Research in Health. The research team was led by Anna Wallays (University of Antwerp).
Unlike in the UK or the US, little was known about abortion trajectories in Belgium until now. In-depth interviews revealed that these paths are rarely straightforward. These trajectories are shaped by the layered processes of recognising a pregnancy and making decisions about abortion, influenced by pre-existing beliefs and structural factors. This complexity has important implications for current debates on Belgium’s abortion law.
