BRISPO (Department of Sociology) is looking for student interviewers to support a research project focusing on immigrants who arrived in Belgium within the last five years.
The call is open to everyone but the position is particularly suitable for students who, in addition to English, speak fluently one or more of the following languages: Pashto, Arabic, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Romanian, French, Hindi, Kurdish, Persian (Dari), Polish, Turkish.
Your main task
You will conduct face to face interviews (approximately 30 minutes each) with at least five non student participants belonging to one of the targeted immigrant groups from Afghanistan, Algeria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, India, Iraq, Iran, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Syria, and Türkiye.
Each interview consists of:
- conducting a structured questionnaire with the respondent using a tablet provided by VUB
- gathering the respondent’s comments/feedback on the questionnaire design
- addressing any questions or concerns the respondent may have
Workload: 10 hours, including the following tasks:
- On-site training session (90 minutes): introduction to the questionnaire, practice filling it in, instructions on how to conduct interviews professionally (December 2025)
- Collecting five completed questionnaires from individuals who arrived in Belgium within the last 5 years and who are not students (you may rely on family networks and acquaintances) (1-13 February 2026)
- Completing a short interviewer’s form reporting the circumstances of each interview (location, time, difficulties encountered, etc.) (1-13 February 2026)
Compensation: €14,0483
This job offer covers only the tasks described above, but for students who wish to continue the collaboration, it will be possible to arrange additional contracts to conduct a larger number of interviews (February-May 2026) and/or translation of the survey from English into one or more languages listed above (January-February 2026).
