M. Fevzi Esen
Biography
Dr. M. Fevzi Esen is a Research Fellow at the Brussels Institute for Social and Population Studies (BRISPO). He serves as an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Health Information Systems at the University of Health Sciences in Istanbul, Turkiye. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Quantitative Methods from Istanbul University. Dr. Esen’s interdisciplinary research bridges quantitative methods, data mining, and public health systems. Closely aligned with BRISPO’s demographic and population focus, he is a working group member in European COST actions, including Migrant Disaster Victim Identification (MDVI) and GREATLEAP (multidisciplinary approaches to health inequalities). His work investigates humanitarian data infrastructures, crisis informatics, and predictive health modeling. In addition, he serves as an Advisor to the Zero Waste Foundation and contributes to multiple research grants supported by TUBITAK and TUSEB.
Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Esen served in key academic leadership roles at Istanbul Medeniyet University, including Vice Dean and Head of Department. He has broadened his international collaborative research through previous fellowships at the Max Planck Institute and the University of Michigan. His scholarship appears widely in leading international peer-reviewed journals, including BMC Public Health, Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Digital Scholarship in the Humanities, and the International Journal of Hospitality Management. He also maintains active memberships in prominent scientific organizations, including IEEE, ACM, and INFORMS.
